Andrew Hall:
International Demonstrator, Woodworker, Woodturner and Wood Hat Milliner

Born in 1961 I have had a passion for working with wood all of my life.

My woodworking career started when I served a five year apprenticeship with Blue Circle Industries at Weardale.

My first influence in woodturning was at the age of 14 when the woodwork teacher then an evolutionary man gave freely his time three evenings a week to educate three very keen students in woodworking, furniture making and woodturning. To this day we have remained in touch and have all carved our careers in wood associated business.

At the age of 22 I had the opportunity to teach apprentices at three colleges in the North East of England.

After teaching apprentices Carpentry and Joinery for 20 years I decided to rekindle my love of woodturning and have been turning professionally for the last 8 years.  Specialising  in making wood hats and Corinthian helmets in three sizes.

I turn conventional bowls, natural edged vessels and staircase spindles.

I teach small groups of a maximum of three in my workshop both woodturning and woodworking and when time allows I love to turn one off pieces of artistic woodturning.

I supply a small amount of galleries with my work and manufacture bespoke woodturning made to the customer’s requirements.

I also teach and demonstrate woodturning to woodturning clubs, schools, women’s institute groups, arts centres and countryside agency groups.

This has given me the opportunity to teach and demonstrate all throughout the UK, Germany, Belgium and Ireland.

I was the founder and former chairman of Wear Valley Woodturners and write articles for woodworking and woodturning related magazines.
